Adding to its growing nationwide and global portfolio, Crystal Lagoons® is expanding. In the Northeast of the United States, in Pittsburgh, a 2 acre artificial lagoon is developed that includes technology which will allow a segment of the lagoon to be transformed into an ice rink during the winter months.
The project, known as Esplanade, is being developed together with Millcraft Investments and will be located in the North Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh, by the Ohio River. It marks an important landmark of Crystal Lagoons, because in addition to being the first crystalline lagoon in this part of the country, once completed, it will be the first urban lagoon in the USA.
Additionally, the artificial lagoon will be the first in the world that can be converted from a body of turquoise and paradisiacal waters during the summer to an ice rink during the winter months. The installation of the Crystal Lagoons amenity will offer additional functionalities during the four seasons of the year, with thermal baths during the year as part of the recreational, health and wellness elements of the project. The crystalline water lagoon leads a series of world-class amenities that will be incorporated into Esplanade.
The Esplanade lagoon will be situated in the coldest weather climate of any Crystal Lagoons amenity worldwide to date. As such, Crystal Lagoons has seen a growing demand for the development of lagoons with this concept in colder-climate cities, since the company’s lagoons can naturally freeze or can be frozen with the addition of supplemental technology.
